Digi20 Project - Digitisation of the areas of collection emphasis of the German Research Foundation
The present project forms part of the line of action "digitisation of the DFG areas of collection emphasis", concentrating on the digitisation of literature predominantly from the fields of humanities and social studies which is not in the public domain, with an emphasis on monographic works.
In a first project phase around 4700 titles from programme segments of the publishing houses Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, Wilhelm Fink/ Ferdinand Schöningh and Otto Sagner will be processed. In a second phase approximately 1750 further titles will be digitised successively, in accordance with an agreed moving wall, representing a time interval between the current publication year and the time of digitisation of three to five years.
Corresponding agreements concluded with the publishing houses, who in turn act in agreement with the authors, provide the opportunity to digitise the copyrighted works and to make them accessible in accordance with the code of practice of the DFG.
Since the start of the project in July 2009 around 3240 volumes have been prepared for digitisation; around 2892 titles are already available in digital form (status May 2010). The titles already processed are researchable via the BSB catalogue or the BVB union catalogue and can be used in an image version with PDF download. An Internet presence with full-text search and faceted search options covering the complete collection is currently being prepared, as is the integration of the project into the relevant virtual subject libraries.
