Die Sammlungen der Dombibliothek Freising und der Bibliothek des Metropolitankapitels München enthalten gemeinsam 285 Inkunabeln. Bei der Neukatalogisierung bzw. Einbringung der Inkunabelbestände in den Bibliotheksverbund Bayern wurde festgestellt, dass 18 Ausgaben bisher noch nicht in den Beständen der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek nachgewiesen sind. Von einer Inkunabel (J 115) wird in Freising sogar das einzige weltweit bekannte Exemplar verwahrt.

Um diesen besonderen Teilbestand der Wissenschaft digital zur Verfügung zu stellen, wurden sie 2011 am ScanZentrum des Münchener Digitalisierungszentrums digitalisiert.

Die Präsentation der Inkunabeln erfolgt im Rahmen der Bayerischen Landesbibliothek Online. Hierbei werden die einzelnen Werke über kurze Texte vorgestellt und in den historischen Zusammenhang eingeordnet. Zu jeder Inkunabel werden dazu - falls vorhanden - die Links zu den Neubeschreibungen (im PDF-Format) sowie zu den elektronischen Inkunabelkatalogen GW, ISTC und BSB-Ink angegeben.

It has been almost 500 years since Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the Wittenberg Castle Church. Until 2017, the time of reformation will therefore be brought to life online. For this purpose, a large number of historical documents and eyewitness reports will be made available to public.
