Partner in Long-term Preservation
All our long-term preservation activities are being done in cooperation with the Leibniz Supercomputing Center. Another important partner is the University of The German Federal Armed Forces.
The Leibniz Supercomputing Center (LRZ)
The Leibniz Supercomputing Center (Leibniz-Rechenzentrum, LRZ) is one if Germany's leading computing centers.
Its origins go back to the year 1962, when Hans Piloty and Robert Sauer founded the "Electronic Computing Committee" in the
Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, today's "Informatics Committee". It was under their auspices that the LRZ
was created as the joint computing center for research and education for all Munich universities, funded by the Free
State of Bavaria. Its name is a tribute to the great philosopher and universal scholar Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646-1716). The LRZ provides several basic services to the scientific and academic communities in Munich, e.g. a powerful communications infrastructure called the Munich Scientific Network (MWN), a competence center for data communication networks, archiving and backup services and a technical and scientific high performance Supercomputing Center for all German universities.
The University Of The German Federal Armed Forces (UniBW)
The University of The German Federal Armed Forces is a partner to the Bavarian State Library since 1999 in several cooperative research projects on the field of long-term preservation. Its remarkable "museum" of outdated hard- and software is an important contribution to the preservation of electronic information. The research of the Institute for Software Technology and its competence in long-term preservation impact the activities of the Bavarian State Library. Within the
nestor project the common focus lies on criteria for trusted repositories
