Travel

You find us north of downtown Munich at Ludwigstraße 16 in the historic Maxvorstadt district, close to Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität and St. Ludwig church (Coordinates: 48.146503,11.582723). The underground stations Odeonsplatz and Universität are nearby.

If arriving by plane at Munich airport, take the suburban train ("S-Bahn", either S1 or S8) to Marienplatz station, change to the northbound underground lines U3/U6 (towards "Moosach"/"Garching Forschungszentrum") and get off at Universität station. From there it is just a two minutes walk southwards to our place. Renting a taxi from the airport would cost about 65 € (price of 2015), depending on traffic.

If arriving by train at Munich Central ("Hauptbahnhof"), take the underground lines U4/U5 (towards "Arabellapark"/"Neuperlach Süd") and drop out at "Odeonsplatz" station. From there it is just a five minutes walk northwards to the library building. Renting a taxi from Munich Central would cost about 15 € (price of 2015), depending on traffic.

If arriving by car, we strongly recommend to leave your car at the parking lot of your hotel and to make use of the Munich Transport System (Park & Ride facilities available as well), since public parking place nearby is very limited and only available at a fee. Otherwise please take contact with us at an early stage in order to obtain a parking permit for BSB's site.

Please see Google Maps for detailed Information. Check the time tables of the Munich Transport System (MVV) and those of the German Railways (Deutsche Bahn). Please consult our information page for disabled users, if necessary.

Access to image-based resources is fundamental to research, scholarship and the transmission of cultural knowledge. Until now, much of the Internet’s image-based resources have been locked up in silos, with access restricted to custom-built applications. The International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) supports uniform display of images of books, maps, scrolls, manuscripts, musical scores and archival material from participating institutions for display, manipulation, measurement and annotation by scholars and students working individually or in groups around the world. For more information see the actual press release and visit http://iiif.io.
