Enhanced Biographic Information Services

The online portal Deutsche Biographie provides structured biographical information about more than 90,000 deceased personalities of German-speaking countries. During the conference "Vom Nachschlagewerk zum Informationssystem" in Munich, a renewed and extended version of this service was presented to the public. It allows full-text search and access to more than 46,000 biographic articles of the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (ADB, 1875-1912) and of the volumes of the ongoing Neue Deutsche Biographie (NDB) already printed.

Workshop of the IMPACT Project on March 4, 2010

The MDZ will host a German-speaking workshop of the EU-project IMPACT on March 4, 2010, presenting the different challenges of full-text digitization. Number of preserved files increased by seven times

Intensified deposit activities and extensive digitization projects led to a significant growth of the electronic archive of the BSB in 2009, now comprising a total volume of 182 TB of data. The number of stored files increased by seven times to 295 million.

Precious manuscript and copperplate engravings of the Fugger merchant family now available online

Two of the most important works of book art are now available in our Digital Collections: The Secret Book Of Honour of the Fugger merchant family and the set of precious copperplate engravings Fuggerorum et Fuggerarum... imagines in a skimmable 3D-version (beta). In a development partnership of MDZ and Microbox company a 3D-model especially for rare books and manuscripts has been developed. It allows the viewing of the books binding and content from different perspectives. This first version is based on transformed 2D data. Next version will make use of 3D scans to provide an even more realistic reproduction.

3D Control-by-gesture presentation system for rare books and manuscripts

During today's presentation of the Secret Book Of Honour and the copperplate engravings of the Fuggerorum et Fuggerarum... imagines a new 3D Control-by-gesture presentation system will be put into operation. It allows touchless skimming, zooming and rotation of precious manuscripts and prints displayed on a screen.

Our new Biographical Portal provides more than 100,000 scholarly biographies of persons from the Universal German Biography, the Historical Dictionary of Switzerland, the New German Biography and the Austrian Dictionary of Biography 1815�1950.

Manuscript of the Nibelungenlied added to the UNESCO Memory of the World Register

The manuscript of the Nibelungenlied preserved by the Bavarian State Library was added to the UNESCO Memory of the World Register today.

The works of Robert Schumann

The complete Works of Robert Schumann (1810-1856) were published systematically between 1879 - 1893 in 14 series and 156 volumes by Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms in Leipzig. This comprehensive edition of the composer's opera belongs to the most important holdings of the BSB's Music Department.
