Photographic Archives Heinrich Hoffmann
Funding:

At the beginning of 1993 the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek acquired the contemporary-historical image archive of Heinrich Hoffmann (photographer of Adolf Hitler). Financial support was granted by the German Research Foundation, out of funds of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (Donator Society for German Academic Research). This archive is of great importance as a contemporary historical source, and is continuously complemented by further acquisitions. The cataloguing of the archive was completed at the end of the year 2000. The more than 66,000 photographs are all currently available exclusively on an internal database of the department. The catalogue entries are searchable by personal names, locations, authorities and events. Within the framework of the digitisation project all photographs are now scanned, combined with the catalogue entries and made available on the Internet. Simultaneously, the photographs are available in an optimum quality on a separate computer. Ordered photographs can thus be dispatched in a digitised state by e-mail, on a diskette or on CD-ROM. Moreover, the data can be printed out in photograph quality and be made available to the users in this form.
